how we use brandwell to write for brandwell

AI has transformed content creation, pulling it inside out so it no longer resembles what it used to be.

The days of manually researching, drafting, writing, compiling, editing, and sourcing are over forever.

That fateful day in November 2022, when GPT was released into the wild, was the turning point. We didn’t know it then, but after that day, things would never be the same.

Even though I’m a little wistful thinking about it right now, at the same time — I wouldn’t want to go back.

AI has single-handedly made it possible for one company, one content team, and one strategy to handle publishing not just dozens, but hundreds of pieces of content per month.

What used to take years is now possible in a fraction of the time.

The question now is not whether you can scale. The question is how MUCH.

How fast and how far do you want your content to go?

It can go there. And beyond.

BrandWell is living proof of how this can work. At our company, we have published hundreds of blog posts in just a few months. We publish 3-4 long-form articles per day. Do the math – that’s up to 90-100 per month! And we’re not sacrificing anything to do it.

We don’t have burned-out writers. We don’t publish poor-quality content. Instead, our content is gaining traction in Google.

In just four months, we were able to shoot from a slim 165 to a whopping 15,000+ keywords indexed, with hundreds ranking in the top three positions.

We went to over 400 posts published on our site, and over 700,000 monthly visitors. See proof below. 👇

We did it with AI, yes, but specifically, we did it with our AI: BrandWell.

And today, you’re going to find out exactly how.

What’s our process for using our own tool? How do we produce content at the rate we do? It’s all inside this guide on how to use BrandWell — from the BrandWell content team. #inception 😎

Our Results: 15,000+ Keywords Indexed in Google in a Few Months

When I joined BrandWell back in January 2023, there was no content team and there were only 20 published posts on the BrandWell blog. 😅

So as a content marketer, my first order of business was to reboot our content production to achieve our goal of publishing 100 blog posts per month with just a small writing team of two people.

Is this even possible?

From the time Justin McGill (co-founder of BrandWell) got me on board, I’ve witnessed the massive potential of BrandWell — the only tool out there that’s focused on generating SEO-driven content.

BrandWell cuts down the writing process from four hours to a mere 5 minutes. 🤯 And it looks this good #StraightOuttaAI.

brandwell

The baseline draft is already well-researched, well-written, original, and undetectable AI content. Yet we never let them go live without a human touch at the end.

Combining the speed and efficiency of BrandWell with my 10+ years of expertise in content marketing, here’s what we’ve accomplished so far in just a few months:

brandwell blog traffic

An incredible 396,000 new users visited our website in April alone — all organic traffic sourced from Google.

And as you can see from this Semrush data, we now have over 15,000 keywords indexed in Google — 258 in the top three!

brandwell blog traffic

How did we go from 165 to 15,011 indexed keywords in just 5 months?

Here’s my strategy:

For the past few months, we’ve been loading our top-of-funnel (TOFU) content with value through:

  1. Long-form writing that demonstrates knowledge and expertise (AI-generated, human-optimized).
  2. Video content supporting all of our written — again, displaying experience.
  3. Capturing more traffic through lead magnets, quizzes, and free tools to increase activity and conversion.

One such tool is our proprietary AI content detector.

When Justin started developing the BrandWell machine, he already had AI detection in mind. And because BrandWell was ahead of everyone else, we owned that niche!

Our proprietary AI detector tool is the perfect example of building expertise and experience.

Just look at the results below.

brandwell keyword ranking

Our AI detector page is now ranking for over 1,600 words!

By the way, our AI detector now has a Pro plan that allows users to automatically rewrite text that has been flagged as written by AI. For only $49/month you get these awesome features:

How do you dominate your sector? Make a killer landing page like this:

how to create a landing page

Our AI detector landing page clearly satisfies E-E-A-T:

  • A known expert (me!) talks about content marketing and AI.
  • A how-to article informs the reader.
  • An FAQ section addresses similar questions the reader may have.

Thanks to a robust content production strategy, we have reached a whopping 5 million impressions.

Here’s how we did it month to month:

  • January: 116,000 clicks and 691,000 impressions
  • February: 132,000 clicks and 1.35 million impressions
  • March: 299,000 clicks and 3.02 million impressions

And we’re not done yet!

With the latest BrandWell updates, growing your brand through top-notch content is now easier than ever.

Our vision is to be the ONLY tool you’ll ever need, not just for publishing but for ramping up your entire content marketing process.

The all-new BrandWell takes us in that direction, giving you a more well-rounded product with three additional technologies:

  • WriteWell™
  • RankWell™
  • Content Intelligence

No other software can offer you this combination of features:

WriteWell comes with AIMEE chat and AI Agents. Now you can create any type of content from the perspective of a copywriting expert, campaign expert, e-commerce expert, or branding expert – just like building your own AI team!

Content Intelligence is our proprietary SEO suite that allows you to do keyword research, run topic reports, run content optimization audits, and build targeted content briefs based on top-ranking pieces – without ever leaving the app.

RankWell is the long-form SEO content writer you all know and love which creates original, human-like, expert content with zero prompting. With this tool at your fingertips, generating long-form blog posts that meet Google’s E-E-A-T requirements becomes a breeze.

From a mere 20 blog posts, we now have 500+ published pieces — 80% written by AI, and 20% polished by a human editor.

This makes our in-house content production a living case study of how the BrandWell app can help businesses scale their marketing efforts.

You too can publish hundreds of high-quality SEO blog posts, case studies, thought leadership pieces, and more — complex content that no one ever thought was possible with AI.

How to Use BrandWell: Our Full Content Production Process & Workflow

Stage #1: Ideation

The first stage of our content process is, of course, ideation.

Our ideas fuel the whole thing, whether they’re in the form of keywords we researched or topics we gleaned from listening to our users.

Since SEO is one of our goals — specifically ranking in Google to drive traffic to our site — we’ve had a heavy focus on keywords for the last few months.

Generally, we come up with a list of 100 or more keywords to focus on each month, with one keyword targeted per blog.

Where do we get all of these keywords from?

Everywhere.

Since BrandWell now has a keyword research tool — powered by the Mangools API — this is our first source for keywords.

brandwell keyword research tool

But beyond our in-app tool, blog ideation and keyword research is a collective effort. Almost our entire team participates in the process. Whether they come from a team leader having a lightbulb moment after a conversation with a user, after someone on the marketing team digs into keyword data, or deep research from our link-building team based on our brand goals… no idea is left out in the cold.

Generally, these come in organically through team members posting thoughts, ideas, and brainstorms in our various Slack channels.

content at scale slack channels

For keywords/topics that come from our keyword research tool, they automatically drop into the BrandWell content calendar:

Beyond keywords, our content ideas also come straight from our users in the form of case studies. (We source these from our live community — another perk of signing up for our service!) We love featuring our customers and the results they get from using BrandWell.

brandwell case studies

These don’t just get airtime on the blog, either — we also regularly post user case studies to our YouTube channel. Here’s an example:

Stage #2: Delegation

With keyword and topic ideas flowing in daily, somebody has to stay on top of them all and get them rolling inside our blog content pipeline.

The person who collects all of these and delegates them to the content team is Farnaz, our Head of Content.

From ideas shared in Slack and keywords dropped in the content calendar, she’s the person who sorts them, sets priorities, and creates blog assignments out of them.

Here’s a breakdown of how we structure our blog assignment briefs. (Note: For every assignment, it’s assumed that the writer will start by creating a draft with BrandWell. If we want the writer to create content from scratch or do deeper edits, we specifically note that in the brief.)

  • Topic/title: The topic of the blog and/or the tentative title of the piece.
  • Keyword: The primary keyword we’re trying to rank for.
  • Goal: What are we trying to achieve with the piece? What will it do for our readers (what benefit will they get from reading it)? The answer to that question is noted here.
  • Links/resources: Links to other blogs in the style we want to emulate, resources to use in the piece, or team resources/docs, like a Google Sheet or a client questionnaire for a case study.
  • Writing notes: Additional guidance for the writer on how to structure and edit the content piece.

Once the assignments are created in the content calendar, the torch then passes to our writer. (Yes, singular! All of our blog content is powered by ONE writer and ONE tool, BrandWell. 🤯)

Stage #3: Outlining, Writing, & Researching (with AI)

The next stage is the nitty-gritty bit of content creation…

Actually generating, editing, and writing the content.

For us, that means our writer, Chris, drives our tool to produce content. Then, that same writer reviews, edits, and optimizes the output.

That’s her entire process from start to finish. 💫

Blogging Before AI… and After

Do you remember how we used to blog before AI?

  1. First, you’d pick a keyword from your list (which you curated from a keyword research tool like Semrush or Ahrefs).
  2. Then, you’d go to Google to research topics around that keyword.
  3. From the first page of Google, you’d pick the highest-ranking sources that you could emulate and write about.
  4. And then you’d create a blog outline — writing headers, subheads, and bullet lists to organize your thoughts.
  5. Finally, you would roll up your sleeves and start writing.

All of those steps are now in our rearview mirror! BrandWell takes your keyword and turns it into a well-researched, well-written, 3,000-word blog post — in just one click.

Just imagine the amount of time you’ll be able to save by automating this entire process. Sure, you can hire 10 freelance writers to do the job, but we all know the challenges of finding a good writer and getting them to show up every day.

Now you have the opportunity to train 2-3 writers to operate the machine and edit the AI-generated drafts — saving you a lot of headaches.

Setting Key Project Details

How to use BrandWell to generate blog posts?

Not so fast.

If you’re new to BrandWell, the first thing you need to do is log in to your BrandWell dashboard. Here you can create different projects for different product lines or brands.

If you’re offering a content-writing service, this is where you create specific projects for each client.

brandwell projects page

Click on a project to modify its settings.

brandwell project settings

Here you can enter your URL, project description, language, word count, target audience, start date, monthly quota, and tone of voice.

One of the most exciting new features of BrandWell is Unique Voice, which allows you to use an influencer tone of voice — or create your own — to maintain a consistent style throughout your project.

In this case, we used my unique tone of voice so that all of our blog posts sound like I wrote them.

To learn more about Unique Voice, check out our feature knowledge base here.

Studies have shown that the content length of the first 10 positions in Google is around 2,000 to 2,500+ words.

Clearly, long-form content is more valuable than short-form content when it comes to SEO. This is why we’ve set our default word count to 2,000-3,000. But you can ask the machine to write up to 7,000 words if that’s your goal.

Once you’ve filled out all the fields in the Project Settings, you can now start creating content.

How to Use BrandWell to Create a Full Blog Draft

With BrandWell, you can create blog posts from a YouTube video, podcast episode, custom audio file, a blog post URL, or Word/PowerPoint/PDF file in addition to the traditional long-tail keyword.

ways to generate blog post with brandwell

Unlike most AI writing tools that require you to create a separate project brief and blog templates, write complex prompts, and engage in a long conversation with a chatbot until it finally understands what you want it to write, BrandWell writes content at scale with just one long-tail keyword and a few clicks.

Stage #4: Editing and Optimizing

After entering your keyword and clicking the “Create Content Now” button, then the magic begins.

(This is the nitty-gritty part of how to use BrandWell, so pay attention.)

BrandWell will crawl the top positions on Google and pick up all the relevant information and entities to create a complete blog post. And when I say complete, it includes a title, meta description, and URL slug. This eliminates the entire SEO research process from your workflow!

brandwell blog post

And then you have a full suite of SEO tools to guide you as you edit the article within the BrandWell dashboard.

brandwell seo tools

The articles written by BrandWell are nearly publish-ready. No need to copy-paste them to a text editor and fix formatting.

Each blog post has an introduction, table of contents, H1-H6 headers, bulleted lists, key takeaways, clicks-to-tweet, and a conclusion with a custom call-to-action.

The only human intervention it needs comes at the editing and optimizing stage.

Tips for Making AI Content Better

The first step in making AI content better is to cut the fluff.

AI tends to be verbose when writing articles — adding fillers that do not contribute any value other than simply lengthening the word count.

Here are some examples of fluff words that you should edit out from your content:

writers bible - 50 fluff words to eliminate

The next step is to review, edit, and optimize. This means checking for typos, editing for readability, and optimizing for search engines.

One of the most underrated features of BrandWell is the Custom Header which automatically adds more content to your draft.

add blog section

If you are not satisfied with what the AI wrote — say, the content is too thin or the AI might have missed something — just click the H logo on the Ask AI toolbar to insert a new section.

On the popup window, type your custom header title and context. Then click “Write the section” to prompt the machine to pull additional information — again from Google’s top-ranked results — and write a fresh paragraph(s) where you placed the cursor.

Another way to enrich your content is to manually pull information from the Research tab of the BrandWell SEO sidebar.

brandwell ranking contents

As you can see from the image below, this column lists all the top-ranking content that the AI identified during its initial research. The machine does not always use all of these articles to write your first draft but you can add some sections at the editing phase.

add ranking content

To pull new sections and add them to your draft, click on the link and select a paragraph from the dropdown. When you click on the plus sign, the machine will automatically pull that content, rewrite it, and add it to your draft where you placed the cursor.

Sometimes the AI will come up with a totally irrelevant topic — either because your keyword was too broad or has multiple meanings. In this case, you can choose to rewrite the entire post and start from the beginning. BrandWell lets you rerun a post up to three times free of charge.

To do this, locate the Content Brief button on the Research tab and then click “Rewrite Content”.

brandwell content brief

Here’s another cool trick: With BrandWell now featuring generative AI, you can ask AIMEE to write short-form copy if that’s also in your bag. AIMEE is a super smart chatbot that can help you produce any type of content — ad copy, landing pages, marketing emails, product descriptions, video scripts, and more.

If you are writing a listicle, which at times can be challenging for our long-form SEO writer, you can seek the assistance of AIMEE.

Here’s one blog post that was totally written by AIMEE!

The third step is to add visuals and other media.

No one wants to read 2,000 words of black text on a single page. Unless you’re a professor checking an essay. 😄

Images — still or animated — are a great way to break up heavy text and entice readers to keep reading your blog.

On the Generate tab, click on the Media button to pull up a gallery of stock photos related to your keyword.

brandwell image gallery

When you hover over a photo, you will be presented with two options: add the image to your article or set the photo as your featured image which will appear on top of your article title and byline.

brandwell add image

You can add as many images as you want within the body copy, with a dedicated image toolbar to guide you in resizing, changing alignment, and adding captions and links to the photo.

The fourth step is fact-checking.

Oftentimes, bots are guilty of making up facts — which is the biggest complaint with ChatGPT.

Any piece of content that’s written with AI should go through human scrutiny to keep your credibility intact.

Whenever you see external links like the ones below, always verify if the links exist, if the information is correct, and if they are from a high-authority domain.

brandwell edit links

We’ve created a video to show you how to fact-check AI content step-by-step to protect your reputation.

And finally, the last step in our process for perfecting AI content is trust building.

How do you build trust?

By making AI content your own through anecdotes, humor, personal stories, and links to credible sources.

AI-generated content tends to sound robotic and — let’s be honest, boring — so it doesn’t appeal to readers from the get-go. Empathy, wisdom, compassion, ethics, intuition, and creativity are human traits that cannot be replicated by robots.

Your human touch is crucial in these final stages before publishing your content.

Here’s a video deep-dive on how to do this:

Stage #5: Final Polishes & Publishing

After our writer, Chris, finishes generating the blog draft and editing it, that draft lands back in the lap of our Head of Content, Farnaz, for final polishes.

Final Edits & Positioning Our Brand in Content

Before the piece goes live, Farnaz will make sure it adheres to our standards and is optimized well for SEO, plus she will look for opportunities to mention and link to our brand organically inside the piece.

Here’s the general checklist for these final edits:

  • Check optimization scores (both BrandWell’s SEO score and the Rank Math score via the WordPress plugin) and look for opportunities to optimize further. This might mean tweaking the meta title, description, intro, blog headings, and alt text for images in the post.
  • Check that the content flows and makes sense from point to point.
  • Check post formatting, including the way lists, headings, and images are presented.
  • Check content readability and rewrite or tweak any lingering stuffy sentences.
  • Check internal linking, and include more relevant links to our own content if needed.
  • Check for opportunities where we can organically mention BrandWell and position it as a solution to the reader’s problem (no sales pitch, just a helpful mention).
  • Check for CTA placement for two goals: 1) where we go for the harder sell of our tool, usually at the end of a post, OR 2) encourage the reader to check out our free resources and lead magnets.

If the post needs larger edits, such as a section rewrite, then Farnaz will toss it back to the writer with detailed instructions for revisions, usually provided in a quick Loom.

Adding Custom Featured Headers and Infographics

One final piece of our content process to mention is images.

Images play a HUGE role in high-quality content. They add life, color, interest, and value to your posts.

If you look through our published posts, you’ll see that every single one has both a central featured header image as well as images like screenshots, infographics, custom branded images, and more sprinkled throughout the body content.

custom blog headers

Our designer, Ivana, created over 60 custom Canva templates for us to use for all of our blog header images. All we have to do is find one with a relevant design and edit the text with the title of the blog.

Along with these images, Ivana is also responsible for all of the custom infographics you’ll see displayed in our content. Generally, these go into production whenever someone on the content team sees an opportunity to present information in a blog in a more dynamic, visual way.

To get an infographic in the pipeline, either Farnaz will 1) add a new assignment with instructions and inspiration for creating the image, 2) she’ll tag Ivana in the blog assignment that needs the image, or 3) one of us on the content team will put through a request directly in Slack DMs.

Here’s an example of custom branded infographic from our post on how to build an SEO content template:

how to build an SEO content template infographic

These types of images add SO much to your content, which is exactly why we invest in their creation. Going above and beyond for great content is never a bad idea.

With the arrival of generative AI, creating visuals has never been this easy. In addition to having Ivana create original artwork, we also use tools like DALL-E and Midjourney to produce multimedia elements for our content.

How to Use BrandWell Like We Do

There you have it — our entire content creation process using BrandWell. Whether you’re a freelancer, a marketing agency, or a business owner, this roadmap is your ticket to publishing hundreds of blog posts that meet Google’s E-E-A-T requirements.

Bringing AI into your content creation game is a no-brainer. It’s not just about making things quicker and easier – though it definitely does that – but it’s also finding that sweet spot between superhuman AI efficiency and our own human touch. After all, at the end of the day, it’s those real human experiences that resonate with readers.
