The best B2B intent-data API is the delivery model whose signals, identity, freshness, permitted use and operating cost fit the action your team needs to take. Start with an acceptance contract and sample data rather than a feature grid.

“API” can mean different things in a sales presentation. A developer endpoint, webhook, scheduled file, CRM connector and dashboard export are different delivery routes. Confirm the actual interface and entitlement before planning an integration.

Decide whether an API is necessary

An API can fit repeated ingestion, custom rules and routing across several systems. It also needs an owner for credentials, failures, schema changes, monitoring and deletion. A weekly research list may be better served by a reviewed export or scheduled file.

Write the decision the signal will change. For a fictional payroll-software team, that might be a research brief for a qualified account. It should not be an automatic claim that a named employee is ready to buy.

  • Observable unit: topic research, account activity, a known-contact action or another defined event.
  • Identity: account, domain, person or inferred role, with uncertainty preserved.
  • Timing: how recent the observation must be to inform the action.
  • Volume: normal loads, bursts, backfill and retention.
  • Permitted use: storage, enrichment, client delivery and destination-specific restrictions.
  • Outcome: the accepted, rejected, acted-on and qualified states to return.

Ask for an implementation evidence package

Request the endpoint list, authentication method, data dictionary, authorized sample payloads, rate limits, pagination, error contract, change policy, license and support commitment. Confirm what the order includes rather than assuming every documented endpoint is enabled.

A useful sample includes missing fields, uncertain identities, stale observations, duplicates and withdrawn records. A happy-path response alone cannot show how the integration handles ordinary data problems.

Require exact timestamp meanings. Observation time, processing time, delivery time, ingestion time and action time answer different questions. Store them separately when the source provides them; mark unavailable information as unknown.

Preserve the source record before normalization

Maintain the provider’s identifiers and original fields alongside your internal record. Document mappings and their versions. Avoid replacing an account-level observation with an invented person-level event.

A practical internal record can include source ID, client ID, signal type, observed time, received time, topic definition, identity candidates, fit decision, permission status, expiry and action outcome. This is a design example, not a published MarketPulse API schema.

Keep null distinct from zero, missing distinct from false and uncertain distinct from rejected. Route ambiguous records to an appropriate review queue rather than silently filling gaps.

Build ingestion and activation as separate stages

  1. Receive: authenticate the request or delivery and record the source.
  2. Validate: check the documented schema, required fields and permitted scope.
  3. Deduplicate: use the documented stable identifier and maintain replay state.
  4. Qualify: apply freshness, identity, fit and customer-status rules.
  5. Authorize: verify destination-specific use, suppression and client access.
  6. Act: route approved records through the configured workflow.
  7. Return the result: preserve errors, rejection reasons and outcome feedback.

Use bounded retries and a recoverable failed-record queue. Follow the interface’s actual retry and throttling contract; do not assume every error is transient. Record a replay safely before allowing it to repeat a consequential action.

Test client separation and authorization

OWASP’s object-level authorization guidance calls for checking permission on the requested record. A valid login alone does not establish access to every client’s data.

For an agency integration, test the wrong client ID, an expired credential and an unauthorized destination using synthetic or approved test records. Inspect logs for sensitive information and keep production secrets out of sample prompts and documentation.

Define an owner for retention, deletion, access review and incident response. A successful HTTP response does not establish that the data can be used for every intended purpose.

Understand MarketPulse’s current product boundary

Current MarketPulse topic and ICP research workflow in BrandWell
MarketPulse supports topic research and audience review in the BrandWell portal. This screenshot is not evidence of a public API entitlement.

MarketPulse standard plans are starting at $500/mo. Starter includes one topic, weekly refreshes and 25,000 contact exports. Growth includes three topics, daily refreshes and 100,000 contact exports. Scale includes ten topics, daily refreshes and unlimited contact exports.

A pull retrieves available data from the previous 24 hours for one topic. Daily use across the included topics provides 90 Growth pulls or 300 Scale pulls in a 30-day month. Weekly Starter pulls vary by calendar. Counts, available fields and audience overlap vary.

Use the portal to search a relevant topic, save the ICP and review available people and companies before deciding on an action. Growth and Scale include AIMEE for the initial user, subject to the configured tools, permissions and usage.

Do not infer API access from these subscription prices. This guide does not establish a public MarketPulse intent endpoint, schema, rate limit or developer entitlement. If machine-readable delivery is essential, confirm the currently supported route and its terms before buying or writing code.

Calculate the complete operating cost

Include data fees, implementation, hosting, monitoring, identity work, destinations, analyst review, support and maintenance. Keep media or outreach costs distinct from ingestion costs. Compare the same scope across a file, connector and API proposal.

Hypothetical ingestion review: 1,000 delivered records include 100 duplicates, 200 out-of-fit records and 100 stale records, leaving 600 eligible records when the categories do not overlap. A $900 operating allocation is $1.50 per eligible record, not $0.90. Eligibility still does not prove a sale.

Use actual rejection categories and avoid double-subtracting records that failed several checks. Evaluate burst loads, an outage and an eventual migration as well as normal operation.

Use a release checklist

  • Documented fields and entitlements match the contract.
  • Missing, stale and uncertain records have defined handling.
  • Duplicate replay does not repeat the downstream action.
  • Unauthorized client and destination requests fail.
  • Throttling, provider outage and schema change are observable.
  • Suppression, expiry and deletion reach downstream systems.
  • Owners can pause, inspect and recover the workflow.
  • Reporting separates ingestion, eligibility, activation and qualified outcomes.

Common questions

Is a real-time API always better than a file?

No. Use the cadence the decision needs. An API adds little value if the team only reviews records weekly and cannot maintain the integration.

Does intent prove purchase readiness?

No. Preserve the observed signal and its limitations. Use it to inform qualification and review.

Where can we evaluate BrandWell’s topic research?

Explore MarketPulse and its current plans. Start with a topic and a defined ICP, then confirm any separate delivery or activation requirements for your workflow.
