The best intent-data tool for a LinkedIn Ads agency preserves the meaning of a research signal, fits the client’s market and produces a usable audience through an authorized activation route. Compare that complete workflow before paying for a large database.
Intent is a prioritization signal. It does not prove that a named person will buy, grant advertising permission or guarantee qualified pipeline. This guide shows how to evaluate tools without confusing contact exports, LinkedIn matching and campaign results.
Decide which operating model you need
- Topic research: identify available research around a relevant business problem, then qualify it against the client’s market.
- Owned-audience workflow: work from a client’s permitted customer or website audience and its documented relationship.
- Data feed: bring a signal into an existing research, identity and campaign process.
- Account orchestration: coordinate a broader set of account decisions across teams and tools.
- Manual research: investigate a smaller strategic-account set when the buying decision needs individual review.
These models answer different questions. A contact-enrichment service is not automatically an off-site topic-intent source. A platform with many integrations may require more administration than a focused agency engagement can support.
Separate the record count from the usable audience
A file with many rows may still produce a small audience after eligibility, identity matching, geography, role filters and exclusions. Review the current platform template and audience status in the client’s Campaign Manager before budgeting a campaign.
LinkedIn’s contact-list guidance requires 300 uploaded rows and 300 matched members; initial processing can take 48 hours or occasionally longer.
The Matched Audiences API documentation also describes separate developer approval. Advertising API access does not automatically include audience API access.
Do not promise native synchronization merely because a tool can export a CSV or has an API. Ask to see the exact authorized route, refresh process and failure handling in the account that will run the ads.
Use six evidence checks in a tool evaluation
1. What was observed?
Ask for the source class, topic definition, observation window and company-versus-person granularity. Keep a reason for including each record. An account-level observation should not become a claim about an individual without supporting evidence.
2. Does the record fit the client?
Apply industry, geography, company size, role and customer exclusions. Check duplicates, parent-company relationships and missing fields. More records can mean more review work rather than more opportunity.
3. Is the proposed use permitted?
Confirm the source rights, client relationship, applicable platform requirements, access and suppression process. An enriched address or hashed identifier does not establish permission. Assign someone to review data handling before an upload.
4. Can the audience actually run?
Inspect the accepted file, match status, usable audience, filters and refresh behavior. Define what happens when an audience is too small or a feed fails. Do not silently replace rejected records with a different source.
5. Can the agency operate it?
Check client separation, permissions, reporting, account ownership and handoff. Confirm client-delivery and export rights in writing. A subscription does not by itself grant a white-label portal, exclusivity or unrestricted resale.
6. Can the outcome be measured?
Agree the qualified action, CRM stage, time window and total cost. Distinguish platform-attributed results from a controlled estimate of incremental results. A comparison needs consistent definitions and clear limits.
Where MarketPulse fits

MarketPulse is the topic-research option in the current BrandWell portal. Standard monthly plans start at $250:
- Starter: one topic, weekly refreshes and 25,000 contact exports per month.
- Growth: three topics, daily refreshes and 100,000 contact exports per month.
- Scale: ten topics, daily refreshes and unlimited contact exports.
A pull retrieves available data from the previous 24 hours for one topic. Daily use across all included topics provides 90 Growth pulls or 300 Scale pulls in a 30-day month. Weekly Starter pulls vary by calendar. Audience sizes and available fields vary, and audiences can overlap.
For an agency evaluation, choose a relevant topic, save the client’s ICP and inspect the available people and companies before deciding on the next action. Growth and Scale include AIMEE for the initial user; connected tools, permissions and usage must fit the intended workflow.
This is not a promise of a native LinkedIn connector or an automatically eligible advertising audience. Verify the destination route separately. Any recipient-specific early-access discount is separate from the standard plans above.
Run a practical signal-to-campaign pilot
- Write the hypothesis. State the client segment, relevant topic, recent window, proposed message and qualified outcome.
- Record the baseline. Keep a fit-only or native-targeting comparison where feasible. Record existing campaign conditions before changing them.
- Qualify the source. Preserve signal fields, check identity and remove ineligible, stale or suppressed records.
- Verify activation. Review the authorized route, file acceptance and final usable audience in Campaign Manager.
- Approve the message. Speak to the business problem without claiming personal knowledge of a prospect’s private research.
- Observe the result. Join campaign reporting with CRM disposition and review the cost of each qualified outcome.
Keep overlap, audience size, budget, creative, offer and sales capacity visible. If several variables change at once, explain why the result cannot isolate the effect of intent data.
Compare cost per qualified outcome, not raw record
Include the data subscription, identity work, activation, media, creative, setup, reporting and agency labor. Keep one-time implementation costs separate from recurring operations.
Hypothetical pilot: a $500 data allocation, $2,000 media budget and $1,000 in agency work total $3,500. Seven agreed qualified opportunities produce a $500 cost per qualified opportunity. If those opportunities do not become customers, that calculation still does not establish profit or ROI.
Do not label every opportunity that saw an ad as caused by that ad. State the attribution method, lookback, sample size and whether a credible comparison was available.
What should the client report show?
- Research: source, topic, window, fit checks and exclusions.
- Audience: uploaded, accepted and usable counts with rejection reasons.
- Campaign: delivery, spend and the agreed qualified actions.
- Sales: opportunity dispositions, stage changes and actual wins.
- Operations: review effort, refresh failures, permissions and the next decision.
A recurring agency service earns its renewal through maintained data quality, usable delivery and inspectable outcomes. It is more than a new file of names each month.
Common questions
Does intent replace native LinkedIn targeting?
No. Native targeting can be an appropriate baseline or the entire approach. Use external intent when its context adds enough value to justify the extra cost and work.
Does exporting contacts mean they can be uploaded?
No. Rights, platform rules, matching and audience eligibility require separate checks.
How should an agency start with MarketPulse?
Review the current MarketPulse product and plans, select one topic and client ICP, and run a documented pilot before expanding coverage. Judge the result on usable audiences and qualified outcomes rather than raw list volume.
